SWING IT BABY! Golf Tournament: Rotary Club of Quiapo Plaza Miranda Initiates A Fund-Raising Drive For Scholars

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

-Nelson Mandela

Everyone has the right to proper education- as being educated increases one’s chances for better career and can open doors for many opportunities. Unfortunately, due to some contributing factors like poverty, the effects of Covid-19 pandemic, that right becomes just a privilege to others.

According to Department of Education and the National Statistical Coordination Board in the Philippines, 1 out of 6 Filipino kids will not attend school. Further, only 7 out of 10 kids will complete elementary school. Of those 7 kids, only 4 will complete high school, and of those 4, 1 will proceed onto university. (Source: www.truevolunteer.org)

With the goal of breaking the chain of poverty and to prioritize education for the youth, Rotary Club of Quiapo Plaza Mirandain cooperation with Espiritu Santo DANGAL, and San Roque Parish, Manila started the PA-ARAL AT PAG-ASA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM.

The scholarship program provided an opportunity for the poor children to learn and live equally with the middle to upper class of the society. The program started with 33 Grade 1 students scholars who live mostly in the slums of North Cemetery and the Manila area. This school year, the PA-ARAL AT PAG-ASA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM now has 40 scholars where some of which, are now in the Grade 3 level and are enrolled in Espiritu Santo Parochial School.

  • Kids are also treated to a short video clip featuring climate disasters such as flash floods.
  • And to finish each workshop session is an actual tree planning at the school backyard.
