Virgin coconut oil is known as the world’s healthiest dietary oil. Research shows that adding coconut oil to your diet could be one of the easiest ways to improve your appearance, health, and well-being. Unfortunately, for some(including myself 😂), there are issues in drinking VCO in its original liquid form. It could be the taste or the texture of VCO, and exposure to air can result in the oil having a rancid taste, making it unpalatable and hard to swallow. In cold weather, it could also harden or freeze.
It’s good to know that there’s a capsule form available in the market like GROWRICH Virgin Coconut Oil Capsules, the first and only VCO in capsule form to be approved by the Food and Drugs Administration.
GROWRICH Virgin Coconut Oil Capsule is an all-natural supplements that have many health and aesthetic benefits. These benefits include lowering LDL cholesterol, reducing the risk of one contracting cancer, strengthening the immune system, promoting weight loss and helping improve hair and skin. Recent studies have shown that VCO is also effective in helping relieve the symptoms of indigestion, asthma, diarrhea, diabetes, sepsis (blood poisoning) in infants and recently, even COVID-19. In addition, VCO has been found to have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties.
“GROWRICH Virgin Coconut Oil Capsules are different in potency and concentration from the liquid form of other brands. The dosage is more controlled and the quality is maintained. The after taste that comes when taking liquid VCO is also eliminated, said Dr. Ed Lalusis, President and CEO of Growrich Manufacturing, Inc.
Every GROWRICH Virgin Coconut Oil Capsule contains saturated and unsaturated fatty acids and essential fatty acids that are heart-friendly and have antioxidant properties. Virgin coconut oil is extracted from a single press of fresh coconut meat that’s been grated and dried for two hours at a temperature lower than 40 degrees Celsius. It is more premium than other coconut oils because there is no second press, thus the yield per kg is lower than those produced from other processes.
Recommended dosage is 1-2 capsules per day with meals.
GROWRICH Virgin Coconut Oil Capsules are available at Mercury Drug, Watsons and Southstar Drugstore for Php11.50 per capsule. You may also get them from Shopee (please search GROWRICH Virgin Coconut Oil).

With the continuous rise of covid-19 cases in the Philippines, Filipinos need to stay vigilant when it comes to sanitation and germ protection. And to help families stay safe in the new normal, Defensil Isopropyl Alcohol has teamed up with the Philippine Society of Microbiology (PSM) to form the Defensil Health Defense Council– a Filipino’s ally in germ protection, and launched the campaign “Create Your Daily Defense”, arming Filipinos with science-backed knowledge on proper sanitation and hygiene.
Joel Cornista, President of the Philippine Society for Microbiology said, “PSM is honored to have a partnership with Defensil. Defensil Isopropyl Alcohol contains the concentration of isopropyl alcohol known to kill germs on the skin and on different surfaces. Regular disinfection of the hands and high-contact surfaces are known measures to prevent the transmission and spread of germs.”
“With the expert knowledge of PSM and with protection that’s real from Defensil Isopropyl Alcohol, the Defensil Health Defense Council hopes to provide Filipinos with the information they need to stay protected in their homes, workplaces and as they go about their daily activities“ said John Paolo Calona, Senior Brand Manager of Defensil Isopropyl Alcohol
For Protection that’s Real, Choose Defensil
One way to prevent the spread of germs is regular disinfection of hands and high touch surfaces using a rubbing alcohol. To provide a higher level of defense against germs in the new normal, the Philippine Society for Microbiology is recommending Defensil 70% Solution Isopropyl Alcohol.
Created by Beauty Elements Ventures Inc, Defensil 70% Solution Isopropyl Alcohol kills 99.9% of germs to give people the peace of mind that they are well-defended. It starts to kill germs on contact and upon constant use, will provide up to 12-hour protection.
Isopropyl Alcohol Label 101: Pharmaceutical vs. Cosmetic Grade Isopropyl Alcohol
Isopropyl Alcohols are registered under the Philippine FDA as either Pharmaceutical or Cosmetic Grade. To know the difference, the front label of a pharmaceutical grade alcohol shows the product’s generic name enclosed in a box. Meanwhile, the back label should show a DRHR number, which is the FDA Production Registration Number, proving that the product has passed the highest FDA Standards for isopropyl alcohol.
For more information on how to stay protected, the Defensil Health Defense Council is inviting Filipino families to visit the Defensil Isopropyl Alcohol’s Facebook page at facebook.com/defensil.philippines.
Adult Acne is one problem that most people deal with from time to time. It can be found almost anywhere on your body, but it most commonly develops on different areas such as face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders. Sometimes, it will surface on areas that you do not expect, like your scalp, and even your armpits.
WHAT CAUSES ACNE?
Pimples grow when hair follicles get blocked, and oil builds up under the skin. Dead skin cells, sebum, and hair can clump together into a plug. This plug gets infected with bacteria, and swelling results. A pimple starts to develop when the plug begins to break down.
Other triggering factor includes, hormones, medications that contain androgen and lithium, greasy cosmetics, stress and menstruation. (Source: Medical News Today)
Some claim they never had any (they are so blessed!), but most people -me included – do not share their luck. I started having acne breakouts (mostly on my face and back) when I reached my puberty years. The backne I can handle, because it is concealed under my clothing. The face acne though, which was highly visible, really affected my self-esteem. Even the mildest breakouts were too embarrassing for me. It’s like I was a factory of pimples that time! – small zits to big zits. Some even left a permanent physical scar on my face which is kinda sad. 😔
Moving on, now as an adult, I still do have some breakouts from time to time. 1-3 pimples max- plus the whiteheads and blackheads. Aside from I’m long past the puberty stage, I already have my skin care routine which I believe contributed a lot in preventing or at least reducing my adult acne recurrence.
So, here are my 8 tips on how to lessen or get rid of adult acne.
1.Wash your face regularly. Since oil or sebum is naturally excreted out by our sebaceous gland, and dirt can accumulate since it is literally everywhere, it is important to remove and properly cleanse your face from these contributing factors to lessen the occurrence of acne. Especially if you are wearing heavy makeup, you should wash your face on a regular basis- about twice daily. You may use a mild cleanser and warm water. Do not over wash your face because it may cause dryness and can aggravate pimples.
2. Avoid touching your face. Our hands are some of the dirtiest parts of our body, and we all know why. That’s because we touch different things which may contain germs, bacteria and viruses. You may not notice it, but you touch your chin, cheeks, nose and mouth several times throughout the day, transferring germs, viruses and bacteria from everywhere to your face. EEEWWW right? Plus, now that there’s a COVID-19 pandemic going on, it is A MUST to avoid touching your face. Especially without washing your hands thoroughly.
Wash your hands with antibacterial soap to kill these pimple-causing bacteria and prevent them from causing adult acne.
3. Moisturize your skin. Moisturizers can help skin stay hydrated. But lots of moisturizers contain oil, synthetic fragrance, or ingredients that may irritate skin and cause pimples. I suggest, that you use fragrance-free, non-comedogenic moisturizers after you wash your face or when your skin feels dry. If you do not want to use commercially made products, you may go for natural moisturizers such as honey, oats, aloe vera, cucumber and many more which you can find at your own home.
4. Stay Hydrated. When your skin is dehydrated, it looks dull, feels tight and dry. Once it happens, your body may signal your skin’s sebaceous glands to produce more oil to compensate the dehydration resulting to blemishes and breakouts.
How will you keep your body and skin well hydrated? Drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day. And when you drink more after exercise, if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, or you spend time and stay in a hot, humid environment.
5. Limit intake of acne-inducing food. When you eat a healthy diet, you are not just making your body strong and healthy, some studies suggest that it can also help prevent and treat acne.
If you consume a large amount of high-glycemic (high sugar) food and beverages such as white bread, white rice, cereals, potato chips, fries, doughnuts or other pastries, milkshakes, sodas, etc., these could raise your blood glucose level. And when there’s a sugar spike, it causes inflammation in your body and can also cause your oil glands to secrete more sebum resulting to acne.
However, studies suggest that when you consume a low-sugar diet, this may reduce the amount of acne you have. Low-glycemic food include most fresh vegetables, some fresh fruits, beans, and seafood rich in Omega-3 like mackerel, salmon, and sardines, etc.
6. Try an over-the-counter acne product. Most acne products usually don’t need a prescription, but I suggest that you consult a dermatologist first so that you’ll know the right diagnosis for your acne condition.
There are lots of OTC acne products in the market now, from soaps to ointments, and oral medications. Lactezin for example. Lactezin is a clinically tested over-the-counter anti-acne medication which uses a natural antibacterial active ingredient called Lactoferrin. This special ingredient is known to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory function which can boost your immune system. Not only that, when combined with Vitamin E and Zinc it will help lessen pore size, pimples, blackheads, giving you a clear skin in as early as 2 weeks when taken 2x daily.
Lactezin is available in leading drugstores nationwide for only P27.00 per capsule.
7. Don’t pop it!. Never squeeze out your whiteheads/blackheads or pop your pimples. Please don’t! even if you are tempted to do so. I know we are all guilty about this. Doing these may make your adult acne even worse. It may cause bleeding, severe scarring, clogging, inflammation or even infection. So if you see pimple breakouts, or whiteheads on your pores, don’t touch it.
8. Don’t stress yourself too much. Let me make this clear. Stress itself does not cause pimple, but it can make breakouts even worse. Research shown that when we are stressed, it stimulates our oil glands to produce more oil. And you know what that means right?. So we should learn to manage our stress and do something to relieve it. Do some relaxing activities such as massage, yoga, watch movies, read your favorite book, get enough sleep and many more.
So there you have it. I hope all of these 8 EASY & PRACTICAL Ways could help you as well in treating your acne at home. But of course, just a reminder if symptoms persist, please consult your doctor.
This pandemic has brought us different challenges and changed the way how we live especially when we are outside of our houses. Since the “new normal” is already requiring us to wear a mask to protect ourselves from the deadly virus, we might forget to also protect what’s behind the mask… our lips.
The skin on our lips is much thinner compared to the skin on the other parts of our body. As they become exposed to the scorching heat of the sun, cold weather and other factors, our lips lose its moisture, dries out and become cracked which is very uncomfortable and sometimes painful. But you know what? It’s a good thing that you can always do something about it.
So how can we prevent our lips from drying and cracking?
- Stay hydrated and drink lots of water.
- Remove make up. Your lips needs to breathe too.
- Never lick your lips. The enzymes in your saliva are harsh on your delicate lips.
- Exfoliate when necessary to remove dead skin cells.
- Do a lip massage. This improves blood circulation in your lips.
- Eat a healthy diet. If you are eating right, your skin would show. So are your lips.
- Always bring a lip balm with you. You’ll never know when your lips could dry out.
Since I mentioned about lip balm, just recently, I have received a package from Mentholatum containing one of their products, the Mentholatum Therapy Lip Gel, (OMG! like a bunch of it!. Thank you!)It also came with a washable mask and a bottle of alcohol that I can use for my protection in this time of pandemic.(Thanks again 😊)
What Mentholatum Therapy Lip Gel can do?
The weather here in the Philippines could be dry, hot, humid, and sometimes a bit cold, that is why we are very prone to having dry and cracked lips. So bringing a lip balm could come in handy. It is nice that Mentholatum Therapy Lip Gel comes in tube packaging(net weight 8.0 grams) which is very convenient to bring anywhere you go so you can apply it anytime. It is small enough, it can fit in your purse, or pocket.
This product is in gel format which contains the following ingredients: Petrolatum, Menthol, Camphor, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Pinus Sylvestris Leaf Oil. Each of these ingredients are known in the market for giving moisture, helps in repairing skin irritation, relieves soreness and can give cooling sensation.
How to use Mentholatum Therapy Lip Gel?
It is so easy to use. Squeeze the tube genlty and apply it on your lips until it is fully covered with the gel. That’s it.
I love the cooling sensation and the soothing feeling!(it’s mentholated). Even if it has a gel consistencey(because of the petroleum), there’s no heavy feeling and it is not that sticky on the lips. Plus it made my lips softer post application.
Lastly, I like the after look of my lips, it is as if I’m wearing a lip gloss! ❤️❤️❤️
Good thing to know that there’s a product like this in the market. Like I mentioned earlier, you’ll never know when your lips could dry out. So better to have one just in case.
So if you are planning to buy one, Mentholatum Therapy Lip Gel is available in-store at Mercury Drug, Watsons and online via Lazada, Shopee, and Watson’s online for only PHP108. 😊
With how busy work generally is, sometimes taking care of yourself can fall by the wayside. Catching up on deadlines, doing errands, focusing on your work — all of these are important, but too much at once can get in the way of your health and development.
PsychCentral describes self-care as any activity that puts mental, physical, and emotional health first. It’s something that can refuel you and allow you to return to your daily life stronger than ever. While there are some common forms of self-care, like going to the spa or taking a day off, the method of self-care depends on the person.
Here are some small ways you can take care of yourself in your day to day life.
Organizing Your Things
Even if you don’t consider yourself particularly neat, being surrounded by mess can take a toll on your mood. According to Insider, a messy house or room could be a sign that you’re in a tough spot mentally. One way to practice self-care is by slowly but surely organizing your things. Start by putting things in their place and work up to bigger activities like cleaning out your closet. The more space you have in your life, the lighter you’ll feel.
Taking care of your diet is another way you can take care of yourself. One Green Planet found that a healthier diet leads to a marked decrease in chronic disease risk, helps maintain a healthy weight, and can increase brain health. You can start by limiting sugar, reducing refined carbohydrates like white bread or white rice, and increasing healthy fats like nuts and seeds.
Another way to practice self-care is by making sure that you’re protected. Health emergencies can happen at any time, and they can take a toll not only on your health but also on your finances. To prevent the stress and worry of expensive hospital bills and allow for a peaceful recovery, invest in an affordable insurance plan like Paramount Direct’s PrimeCare Cash Plan. It has affordable premiums that start as low as Php 213 monthly, as well as guaranteed acceptance and coverage in the Philippines and around the world. Rather than leaving your health and savings up to chance and dealing with the stress of chasing after hospital bills, investing in insurance ensures that you’re safe and protected.
Writing a Schedule
Finally, one thing you can do to practice self-care in your day-to-day life is by planning out your schedule. While the temptation to simply wing it may be strong, taking the time to write out a schedule might actually be better for you in the long run. Psychologist Dana Gionta says in an interview that planning brings extraordinary advantages. It optimizes the use of your time, allows you to feel more in control of your schedule, and leaves you with more mental energy as you don’t have to worry about forgetting an important project or task. Staying in control of your schedule leaves you more time and energy to focus on yourself and the things you love.
Reproductive health specifically contraception is one of the topics that are not openly discussed here in the Philippines. Since we are a conservative country, many filipinos-majority of women and couples are reluctant to reach out beacause they are not aware or has limited access to the right channels to get the right information about this matter.
This is the reason why the government and even private sectors are doing some actions in order to properly disseminate correct information when it comes to contraception and reproductive health in general. And what a better way to spread awareness is through online where almost everyone has access to.
As a global leader in women’s health, Bayer has launched ASK MARA, the go-to-gal for online advice on contraception and reproductive health to help bridge this gap in the Philippines.
ASK MARA offers key information and resources on reproductive health in the convenience of their smartphone via the Facebook Messenger app. This will give women access to credible and reliable information anytime, anywhere without having to worry about possible stigma.
“We recognize the power and reach of the digital platform to educate Filipinos about reproductivehealth and contraception. As we have been activelysupporting various awareness and advocacy programs in the Philippines, this is another important channel tospread the right information on the said topic.” said Junil Kim, Country Division Head of Bayer Pharmaceuticals.
ASK MARA chatbot provides information to women on the different contraceptive options available, both natural and modern methods. Mara shares the usage, pros, and cons of contraceptive pills, condoms, and intrauterine devices among others. She also responds to frequently asked questions and includes a pill reminder feature to help those who are just getting started.
“We generally feel comfortable asking our best friends on sensitive topics. Ask Mara essentially is providing a pseudo one-on-one engagement online. We need to provide this type of private setting to Filipinos so women will be encouraged to ask questions and get the right answers pertaining to contraception and reproductive health. This will also prompt them to consult us physicians if they have more pressing questions,” said Marie Michelle Dado, MD, Fellow of the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society.
