Philippine Popular Music Festival Final 14
Out of the 3,000 song entries, 14 were chosen as finalist for the 1st Philippine Popular Music Festival’s search for the next big Filipino songwriter.
Song entries came not just here in the Philippines but also from other parts of the globe like France, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, United Kingdom and Hong Kong.
PhilPOP executive director, The musical Maestro Ryan Cayabyab said,”We want to thank all our kababayans who shated their compositions with us. The mere fact that we received this overwhelming response for the very first Philippine Popular Music Festivalis a victory not only for OPM(Original Pilipino Music) but more so, for the Filipino people”
“This is an exciting time for the local music industry. With PhilPOP, we are helping shape the future landscape of OPM. The talent and the potential of the Filipino songwriter have always been there. We have proven it many times over. Now, the next step is to shine the spotlight on the best of the best”
Recently at Resorts World Manila, the 14 finalist were revealed and announced as follows:
1.”Himig ng Panahon” by Timothy Anjello Alfaro
2.”Bigtime” by Trina Belamide
3.”Dulo ng Dila” by Noel Zuniga Cabalquinito
4.”Slowdancing” by John Kennard Eleazar Faraon
5.”Minsa’y Isang Bansa” by Gary Granada
6. “Brown” by James B. Leyte & Jezreel S. De Oca
7. “Kesa” by Edwin Marollano
8. “Piso” by Kristofferson B. Melecio
9. “3AM” by Keiko Necesario
10. “Takusa” by Byron Ricamara
11. “Tayo Tayo Lang” by Ronaldo M. Sorioso
12. “Kontrabida” by Soc Villanueva(not present)
13.”Negastar” by Michael Angelo Santos Villegas
14.”Bawat Hakbang” by Karl Vincent H. Villuga

The top winning entry will receive a whopping P1 million pesos while the runners- up will receive P500,000 and 250,000 respectively. PhilPOP will also give People’s choice Award for the most popular entry by text votes.
