Who said that the Philippine music industry is dying? Definitely not!, and it is proved by over a thousand Filipino amateur and professional songwriters/composers who will be joining the newest song writing festival… the “Philippine Popular Music Festival”.

Philippine Popular Music Festival (PhilPOP), spearheaded by the one and only “Maestro” Mr. Ryan Cayabyab who is also the executive director of the said festival, issued a last call to all Filipino songwriters, performers and music lovers to join and participate to the PhilPOP songwriting competition.

 “We are inviting all Filipino composers to come out and share their work. This is your moment to shine. It’s high time once again, celebrate the artistry of the Filipino musician. Your big shot at a song-writing success begins at this first ever Philippine Popular Music Festival”, Mr. Ryan Cayabyab said.

Fourteen(14) finalists will be chosen for a final performance for this festival. The two(2) runners-up who will receive P500,000 and P200,000 respectively and a whoping 1 Million pesos for the composer of the top winning entry.  Special awards will also be given like People’s Choice award for the most popular song entry thru online and text votes.

Here’s how to join:

1. Interested songwriters/composers must submit their entries online at until midnight of May 10, 2012.

2. Song entries must be in MP3 format and can be in any popular music genre or a fusion of known genres, in any form and structure.

3. Each composition must not exceed four(4) minutes.

4. Each contestant can submit a maximum of two(2) songs, either a solo composer or as a collaborator.

5. Song lyrics may be in Filipino, English, any Filipino dialect or a combination thereof.

Note: All entries will be judged based on the artistry and creativity of music(50%) and lyrics (50%).

More than just the excitement of the prizes at stake, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab explained the long-term impact of the competition for the eventual winners.

“PhilPOP is not just a one-time, big  time shot of fame. It can be that stepping stone to building a long and successful music career. More than anything else, it’s a chance to carve a niche in the industry and change the landscape of local music”, says maestro.
